Spouse Visa and separation

Can you please please advise on this case
It’s for a friend of mine he came to UK on spouse visa January 2019 his visa about to expire in August 2021 but he think he wouldn’t last with his wife till then
He thinks they will separate and then divorce
He asks if they separate without divorce does that mean his visa will be cancelled? Is any option for him to continue living in UK after separation or after divorce?

If he hasn't have a British child then he will have to go back home I m afraid. As because the sponsor will need to inform to UKVI about the breakdown of relationship who will curtail his visa.
