Effect on Tier 2 dependant if main applicant who is a citizen leaves job

Post by Sykhan88 » Fri Jun 12, 2020 6:30 pm

Hello,
I have become a british citizen through the tier 2 work route. My wife is still on a tier 2 dependent visa and is due to apply for an ILR in February 2021.
My question is: i am leaving the company i had originally gotten my tier 2 visa with. I was at this company when i applied for my wife’s tier 2 dependant visa. Does my leaving this company affect my wife’s status. There are three scenarios i would like to get considered:
1. Either i find another full time position
2. Start my own company
3. I am jobless

Would really appreciate some guidance on this especially in these turbulent times with jobs at risk.

Regards,
Shaheryar.

There is no requirement that you must remain employed by the company who sponsored your previous Tier 2 General visa.

Any, your choice. There is NO requirement that you must be employed for your dependent to qualify for ILR. Just be very careful about what you decide if you intend to claim benefits.

Many thanks for a quick response. Could you just elaborate on your point about claiming benefits with respect to those three options? Hadn't really thought along these lines.
