Tier 2 - Total duration

I understand the maximum Tier 2 visa period is 6 years. Can someone be on Tier 2 for longer than this in total if it is made up of separate visits? I am aware of the cooling off period restriction.

By Separate visits you mean separate visits after cooling? Then Yes.

Tier2 is generally given for time specified in the cos and can be renewed subsequently till the overall period is 6 years.

Tier2 at a max is for 6 years before the person must serve mandatory 12 months outside country before starting another fresh Tier2. Generally once people cross 5 years in Tier2 apply for ILR.
