Just came across this story on TOI online, will this mean tighter restrictions and delays for any new Tier1 applications?

Getting a bit scared now :?

Absolutely not. It does not refer to Tier 1 .... it refers to Tier 2 .... which starts soon. The current Work Permit arrangements for skilled workers = Tier 2 !

Which means work permits (tier 2) for IT workers will be a thing of the past.

Click here for the UK list of shortage occupations.

No mention of IT workers there ...... better get practising your sheep shearing skills!

The point is this. If someone is qualified to come in under Tier 1, it does not matter which skills they possess, but if not Tier 1 qualified, the UK is now insisting that the UK does have a shortage in a particular sort of job.

Interesting how they are going about this. For example, "care worker" is not OK, but "senior care worker" is OK, but a "senior care worker" needs to be paid at least £8.80 per hour. Not a fortune, but noticeably more than a "care worker" would be paid.
