Deed Poll for Asylum and etc.

Post by nalgson » Fri Nov 06, 2020 1:46 pm

Hi guys! I have some questions and hope you can help me!
So, I am an asylum seeker in London, I want to change my name by deed poll, then I need to notify HO about my name change, question: how can I do it? At which address I should send a letter via Post if I need to send it to HO? And generally, how can I contact HO directly (Migrant Help said they can't help with that).
And also I have no solicitor, could anyone help me with getting it?
I am trying but can't find - all busy.
One more question: I had a screening one month ago. But by this time I am in temporary accommodation, who knows when I will be moved to permanent accommodation?
Many thanks!

I forgot about something else!
Is there any kind of option to get permission to work (if you asylum seeker in the UK for only 1 month)?
Can I just ask about it HO and who knows maybe they do something? Or it's absolutely senseless in such circumstances?

I want to change my name by deed poll
Why do you want to change your name - you have only been here a month ??
who knows when I will be moved to permanent accommodation?
What makes you think you will receive permanent accomodation?
Is there any kind of option to get permission to work (if you asylum seeker in the UK for only 1 month)?
Unlikely.
"Those who claim asylum in the UK are not normally allowed to work whilst their
claim is being considered. They are instead provided with accommodation and
support to meet their essential living needs if they would otherwise be destitute.
The Home Office may grant permission to work in accordance with this policy to
asylum seekers whose claim has been outstanding for more than 12 months
through no fault of their own."

Or it's absolutely senseless in such circumstances?
There are quite a few asylum seekers awaiting a resolution to their claims, some waiting for many months or years even.
This is just my opinion as a member of this forum and does not constitute immigration advice.

That is about my private circumstances and safety.
What makes you think you will receive permanent accommodation?
It was written everywhere (HO site, right to remain, refugee council, migrant help) - that for the first time you accommodated in the hotel, for temporary, and then you will be moved to "permanent" accommodation (flat or something). And the Aspen card will be given to you also. If you have no money and nowhere to live, exactly.
So, I have no permanent accommodation on address, I have no money, and I have no Aspen card.
And at the same time I even cant work for getting income by myself, cause as you said HO does not give that now. That's why I want to know when it all will begin.
Thanks for your attention.

Does that source gives any timescale which probably it doesn't because it all depends on the severity of individual circumstances, benefactor's discretion and availability of accomodation.
