VAF9 Query- marriage certificate needed if applying alone ?

Post by vinitmenon » Fri Aug 22, 2008 6:10 pm

Hi,

I am going to apply under the Tier 1 scheme next week.
I had a doubt , I had called up VFS but they did not have a clear answer
I'm applying alone and my wife will apply as a dependent later.

So in VAF9 form

Part 5a Your Family
Is your partner accompanying you or joining you later?

I choose No , skip the details of spouse

In Part 7 , I say that my wife will be applying later.
So my question is Do I still need to provide a marriage certificate ?

I have this doubt since in the Annex C - Supporting Documents Checklist
its written

Personal Details section
• Unless single, please provide evidence of your marital status e.g. marriage or civil partnership certificate

Can someone who has applied alone please clarify ?
Do I need to provide a marriage certificate ?

My appointment date in 25th Aug.

Thanks in advance,
VM

You do not need to provide Marriage Certificate. However, do carry it along with you.

I am married and had applied alone, even then VAC asked for MC.

You mean you had to show it ? or submit it

Thanks for the quick reply

In Part 7 , I say that my wife will be applying later.
Given that is the case, I don't understand :-
Part 5a Your Family
Is your partner accompanying you or joining you later?

I choose No , skip the details of spouse
Either she is going to join you later, or she is not. Which is it?

She IS joining me later , however she is not applying with me .

I'm confused now that you pointed this out , I did call VFS call center and they told me to put No there ?

Show? VAC team only coordinates to collect the documents, they do not take any decision.
I had to submit the MC as VAC team member insisted on submitting it.

What is the harm in submitting MC?

Hi
Hope my Conversation with BHC will put an End to all doubts

My Query:
Hi
For Tier-1 General Initial Application,
I am married but not applying for my Wife at the moment. I am planning to apply later next year for my spouse.
Still do I need to submit Marriage Certificate with my Application? Or it is required only when I am making application for my spouse?
I have mentioned my current marital status as married in Application & have given the details of my wife, but no Marriage Certificate attached.

The Reply I got from BHC Chennai:
Dear Mr Mohan Rao,
Marriage certificate is not a mandatory requirement if you are applying only for yourself.
