UK standard visitor visa for British citizen who holds passport of other country

Post by reddym » Thu Nov 19, 2020 5:40 pm

Hi,

My daughter is holding Indian passport and the last year-end we have applied for her naturalisation in the UK. In February we have received her naturalisation certificate but before we have received her naturalisation, my daughter and wife went to India and stuck there with Covid lockdown. In April this year, my daughter's dependant visa was expired and they couldn't able to travel back to London. So, we have applied for her first British passport on the 16th of July. It's been nearly 4 months and still, we haven't received her passport and HMPO is not giving any timelines either.

As she never held a British passport we can't apply for travel document so, I am thinking while her passport application is in the process can we apply for a standard visitor visa with Indian passport so she can come back to the UK?

Thanks in advance

A British citizens cannot apply for a visitor visa. She has also lost her Indian citizenship from the date in her registration certificate.

Thanks for your response. If I reach out to MP can they help in Passport application speed up process?

I know she has lost her Indian citizenship and I thought she has to surrender her passport but when I reached out to FRRO in India they have confirmed in an email that she can hold Indian passport until she becomes major.

That only applies to children born to British and Indian parents, ie one British and one Indian parent.

By voluntarily, formally and willingly registering the child as British doesn't apply in regards to this rule.

She still can't apply for a visitor visa. It will be refused/rejected.

You will simply have to wait for the passport and then exiting India might be another hurdle.
