IHS fee calculations

Post by FrMatthewHomes » Wed Nov 25, 2020 8:26 pm

Hello all,

I was wondering how the IHS is calculated when applying for a tier 2 visa.

It says online that “You can come to the UK with a Tier 2 (Minister of Religion) visa for a maximum of up to 3 years and 1 month, or the time given on your certificate of sponsorship plus 1 month, whichever is shorter.”

So just making sure I am understanding correctly, if the COS is for 3 years, ie Jan 15 2021 to Jan 15 2024, will they then add 1 month on the end of that? Will they then take that 1 month and make me pay the IHS for an additional half years bringing it £2184 (£624 x 3.5)?

Just to clarify my question a bit, this sentence: “You can come to the UK with a Tier 2 (Minister of Religion) visa for a maximum of up to 3 years and 1 month, or the time given on your certificate of sponsorship plus 1 month, whichever is shorter.”

Is this saying that they WILL add a month or that I COULD add a month if I wanted to, for example the COS could be for 3 years and 1 month, Jan 15 2021 to Feb 15 2024?

Thanks for all the help!

The extra one month is relevant to the visa and not the ikhs. You pay IHS for 3 years with cos that is for 3 years.

Thank you very much for your quick reply, I appreciate that.

So just to clarify, if the CoS is for Jan 15 2021 to Jan 15 2024, then I will just pay for the 3 years and the extra month is essentially “free”, or how does that work?

Ok thank you very much, I really appreciate the help.

The reason I asked was I have read of some people being overcharged for the IHS and wondered if this was due to that extra month being thrown on there if that raised the fees, and was hoping to avoid that, if that was the case.

Thank you again!!

People who are overcharged generally get a refund if the excess paid.
