Tier 2 holder planning on marrying a British citizen. Process and documents needed?

Post by kindastuck » Tue Dec 15, 2020 8:09 am

Hi everyone,
I am on a tier 2 visa and planning to marry a British citizen. I am not intending to change my visa afterwards because I do not want to reset my counter.
I understand that we need to take permission from an HO approved registry for this. I wanted to ask what documents or proof (apart from BRP/passports) we would need to show, or where I could read up more about this topic.
Thanks in advance.

Hello

There are no papers really. Just go to an approved Registry Office and ask for an appointment in order to "give notice". They will see you both, usually in person, and you need only to take your passport and residence card. It's really light in terms of paperwork.

Then, the notice will be displayed at the Registry Office and if no one raises any objection, you will be free to marry. You will need to plan a date with the Registrar and pay their fees.
