How long allowed to stay outside Uk, if applying for Tier 2 visa

Hi

My brother is a student, he is currently on his internship (placement year) which will end by Jan 2022. His current employer is ready to sponsor him on tier 2 general (or PSW if it come into action soon). May I know in order to apply tier 2 or PSW, how long is he allowed stay outside UK in a calendar year ( like i know for ILR -180 days) but for this, I am not sure. Specially any new allowance due to covid restrictions?
