Help: HSMP to switch to unmarried spouse visa - which form??

Post by londonbug » Tue Sep 30, 2008 4:29 pm

Hi all,

I am currently working in the UK on HSMP (since July 2007). I was looking into extending it next year when I came across the spouse visa. As I have now lived with my (British) partner for over 2 years, it seems sensible for me to go on the unmarried partner visa rather than HSMP as I can get my ILR in 2 years time instead of ~4 years (I think you need 5 years on the HSMP to get ILR but 2 years with unmarried spouse visa, is that right?)

My question is, is that the right way to go? And which form do I need to fill? I looked at the FLR(M) form but it seems to indicate that you can only use it if you are currently ALREADY on a temporary permit as a spouse and looking to extend it. As I am on HSMP, will that be the right form? If not, which form should I use?

We are looking to settle in the UK permanently so any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Form FLR(M) is indeed the correct form to use.
