FLR(M) - Self-employed - Tax return "stuck" at HMRC

Post by Tea_Lover84 » Tue Apr 27, 2021 12:21 pm

- My wife's FLR(M) application deadline is 27th May 2021.

- We are relying on my self-employment income to meet the financial requirement.

- My accountant filed my tax return with HMRC on 16th April, and provided me with my tax return, a tax calculation, unaudited accounts, and the certificate of confirmation.

- Tax returns are usually processed by HMRC within 72 hours of submission, but mine has still not been processed.

- I called HMRC and the advisor said that it is "stuck" and has not been processed yet. He wasn't sure why, but said online submissions are rejected from time to time and need to be processed manually.

- He said it will be processed by 5th July, but this is way after the FLR(M) application deadline. I explained that the Home Office specifically needs the SA302 for a visa application.

- He put me on hold and said he put my case on a priority list, and that my tax return will be processed by 6th May.

- If the tax return is processed on 6th May, it will be 72 hours before the SA302 and Tax Year Overview are available. With the weekend, that is 11th May. The SA302 could then take 2 weeks to arrive by post.

- Even if the tax return does get processed on 6th May, this is still cutting things very fine.

Q1. Does anyone have experience of being unable to obtain the SA302 and Tax Year Overview from HMRC before a FLR(M) application deadline? If so, what did you do?

Q2. Does anyone have any advice about what to do if it starts looking like I won't receive the SA302 in time?
