Spouse visa extension

Hi I hope so one can help answer this. I will be applying for my spouse visa extension this year. My visa expires 2 November. I know I will need to apply 28 days before this. Is that 28 working days or 28 days in general? We also have a 1 year old child which we welcomed into the world last year. What docs do we send in regards to her other than birth certificate. My wife and child are both born in the UK.
