Tier 2 General WP Extension

My spouse's current Tier 2 ( general) visa is going to expire on 14th August. Her employer is going to apply for an extension of 3 years.
Just wanted to know how much time its taking now for a CoS allocation ? so that she can push her HR to start the process asap.

Another Query - My spouse Tier 2 ( General) visa was issued for 2 year from Aug 2019 - Aug 2021. Does she need to apply ( Cos by HR) for more 3 year or Tier 2 visa ( now Skilled) can be extended for more than 3 years ? The question being her HR asked her for how many years she wants to extend her visa. Can she apply for more than 3 years under new rules ? I am not sure , any advise would be helpful.

The HR normally requests bulk COS, so if they already have a COS allocated so they just need to assign it, which takes 1 day, if they are requesting fresh for allocation it would take 6-8 weeks.

That is not correct. CoSs for Skilled Workers and the corresponding visa can be for any period up to 5 years and can be extended as many times as necessary.

However, @Nazir010119 is correct that if your spouse intends to apply for ILR after 5 years then a 3 year CoS and visa would be sufficient.

So Does that mean she can apply for another 5 year ? or its 5 years you can stay and after that you can apply for another extension ? If there is no maximum limit
I want to apply for 4 year to be on safer side.
