Studying whilst a spouse of an EEA

Post by Gabriella2305 » Tue Oct 14, 2008 2:21 pm

Hi guys,

I know I've started 3 different topics but you've been most helpful and wanted to know if I would be allowed to study while having an EEA residence permit?
I have been on a student visa in the UK for 2 years and would like to do my 3rd year and finish my degree. Would I be allowed to do it and work part time?

Also- if I apply to a university would I still have to pay foreign student rates or would I be legible to get UK/ EU rates being on a EEA residence permit??

Thank you very muchly

If you get a EEA permit as a registered partner of an E.U citizen you will be allowed to study and work. As far as the fees go, In Ireland you have to have been resident in an E.U country for atleast 3 years to qualify for the E.U fees rate. See my post here

Has your third year already started, and have you enrolled? I ask because from what you write (I have underlined it) it seems as though you have not continued your studies?

I am still studying. Still on my first year and will finish my second year at the end of 2009. I want to do my 3rd year in 2010. Unis only start in September so I would work for the first part of the year.

Also, my plan is to study in the UK, not Ireland. So based on that would I get EU rates having an EEA residence permit?

Thnx for ur advice

Not unless you have lived the EU for at least 3 years, no.
