Passport requirement question

Post by user310 » Sun Aug 15, 2021 3:39 am

Hi I have a question which turns out not to be a commonly asked one. I tried contacting the Home Office and also the UK Embassy here in DC but so far no reply from either. I hope someone here might be able to shed some light on this.

I am a BNO Passport holder (born in HK) and an US Citizen.

In the US it required by law that an US Passport holder uses his or her US passport when entering or exiting US, I'm wondering if the UK has a similar requirement.

Thanks!

No, the UK does not have the same requirement.

But with entering the UK on a foreign passport, you have to have evidence of right to reside if not a visitor.

Note that a BNO passport does not allow you to live and work in the UK. You would have to apply for a BNO visa to do that.

If you enter on a us passport, you are admitted as a visitor and cannot work or live here or switch to a different visa category to stay.
