Late Entry to UK - Pls advice

Hi,

My visa is valid from Oct 01st but due to medical issue I would be going to uk only during the month of March 2009. Since I will be having my medical documents I can show that as proof to the Entry officer incase he raise any question about my late entry.

How long i can take vacation leave...Somewhere I read that we should not be away for more than 180 days in the 5 years period. Since I will be going after 6 months (180 days) of my visa stamping will i be eligble for any vacation outside uk.
