Hello my name is David I am 18 years old. When I was 8 years old I move to the US (traveler visa) I was legal for 6 months after my family and I were illegal for the next year and a bit. We then after aquired a workers visa and soon after applied for political asylum, for the next 7 years we were living in the states legally. After that our political asylum was denied, so we were made to leave the country and so we left voluntarily (meaning we were not deported). It has now been two years since I was last in the US. As I mentioned I am now 18 and have been accepted by BYU (Utah), I would very much like to study business there. However I have heard I am not able to go back to the US for the next 3/10 years.
My question is..
Do I have this penalty for being illegal for a year at the age of 9? If so is there a possibility that I would be allowed back in because I am being penalized for something I did at the age of 9? Also would I be allowed back in since I am going back in order to study in college, not just going there for tourism or anything?
Anyway thanks a lot for all your help, this is a very important issue for me since studing in an American university is quite important to me.
Any questions or anything email me at

Thanks again
