Hello everyone,
I’ve read many threads on this forum and luckily found my answers in the past, so thank you all for this incredible site! However now I find myself in a different situation I cannot find an answer to… hopefully you can help again!
I am a British citizen since birth, and im 27.
My girlfriend is a Canadian citizen since birth, and she is 25.
My Canadian girlfriend finally managed to move to the UK in September 2020. We decided on a Tier 5 Youth Mobility visa which runs out in September 2022. As a part of this we paid the rather expensive healthcare surcharge.
We had planned that when her visa is running out we would apply to move her onto another visa, such as the unmarried partner visa as we would have been living together for 2 years.
However we have just found out she is unexpectedly pregnant. (It was a surprise, but great news as a doctor told her that she wasn’t able to get pregnant!!)
Few questions:
1) Will the healthcare surcharge we paid cover the pregnancy and birth, or is that exempt and therefore we need to pay? (We have found mixed results online)
We would like to have the baby in the UK and carry on our family here when we can afford to get married in the future.
2) Once the baby is born, what visa options do we have for her next visa? As far as I understand, it will be made much more difficult to get a visa with a child, even though the child will be half British…
Our main concern is whether she will have to go home for the birth, and in that case whether she can actually get back here!
Please can anyone help put our minds at rest?
Thanks in advance!!
