Girlfriend from Japan

Post by Pb nighter » Sun Dec 05, 2021 10:45 am

Hello all

My girlfriend is from Japan and we have been talking online for some time

We both want to live in the UK, but which visa do I apply for?

Spousal visa looks like it is for marriage, but we want to be able to get married if that makes sense not be given a timeline in which to do so

She works online as a teacher, and I work in a factory

Any points in the right direction would help

Kind regards
Mitch

Have you met physically, in person, face to face??

How long is "some time"?

Then you could look at a 6 months fiance visa, which will allow you to marry in the UK and then switch to a spouse visa.

Visas costs £1523 and you need to meet the financial requirement of £18,600pa and prove adequate accommodation. She needs to meet the English requirment.

Let's say we don't get married in those 6 months, would she be able to stay?
I do want to marry her but I don't want a time limit if you know what I mean

Also for spousal visa

No, she would have to leave the UK. A fiance visa cannot be extended.

For an unmarried partner visa, there is mandatory requirment to prove, with substantial evidence, that you have lived together for 2 years in a relationship akin to marriage. This does not seem to apply to you based on what you have posted.

Alternatively, if she meets the requirements, she can apply for a Tier 5 Youth Mobility Visa, which is a two year visa.
