Guidance on Translation of Docs for Visitor Visa

Post by Magus1984 » Mon Jan 17, 2022 12:34 pm

Hi there,
I'm in the process of sponsoring my parents application for a UK visitor visa.

Some supporting docs are in spanish. Do you know if I can ask a friend to translate or do I need to use an official translator? I can't find anywhere that says it must be an official translator or whether I need to certify the copies of those documents. Could you point me to the relevant guidance?

Guidance here is not clear https://www.gov.uk/government/publicati ... ing-the-uk:

All documents, apart from passports, can be originals, scans or photocopies.

If you submit a document that is not in English or Welsh, it must be accompanied by a full translation that can be independently verified by the Home Office. Each translation must contain:

- confirmation from the translator that it is an accurate translation of the original document
- the date of translation
- the translator’s full name and signature
- the translator’s contact details

It needs to be translated by an official translation service that can be verified, as the link clearly states.

You cannot have your friend do it if they are not a registered or official translator.

I used to do the translation by myself for my parents and they were accepted.
