When to apply for Spouse visa extension

Hi

I have seen conflicting statements around when is best to apply for this. Some say i should apply no more than 28 days before expiry date as anything before this could affect the 5 year qualifying period. Some say i can apply 28 days within reaching 30 months.

I would prefer applying once spouse has reached 30 months so just wanted confirmation this is ok? i'm presuming extension will also be 33 months resulting in 63 months overall so shouldn't be an issue?

You can apply within 28 days before reaching 30 months counted from the date of arrival in the UK.

An extension is granted for 2.5 years, 30 months, not 33 months.
