ILR name change

Post by Mariankvday » Tue Feb 15, 2022 3:28 am

Hi. I hope someone can help me with this. I renewed my passport on 9th December 2021 at the Philippine Embassy in London and changed it to my married name. I just received it yesterday 14th February 2022 as it came from the Philippines and it takes them 8-10 weeks to send the passport. The issue date on the passport is 15th December 2021. I’m going to apply for the ILR soon with my married name so my BRP will be on my married name. My question is, does the 3 months start from the issue date of the passport or the day I received it which was yesterday? I don’t really want to pay for the £1,000 fine. Hope someone can help me. Thank you.

You are overthinking this. You are allowed to use either your name or your married name. There is no fine. Apply for ILR as normal when eligible :!:

Thank you for the reply Zimba. I thought you have to report any changes on your details within 3 months or pay the fine. In my case it’s my name as I renewed the passport on my married name and BRP is still on maiden name. As the issue date of the passport is 15th December, I’m assuming that I have until 15th March to apply for ILR so it’s still within 3 months? Or can I apply at the end of March? As we’ll have all the money for the super priority service then.

I repeat once more, there is NO NEED to update your name on the BRP. :!: :!: You can hold a BRP with either your name or your married name, regardless of which name is in the passport. Just apply for ILR when eligible and the new BRP will be in your married name
