UK Settlement - UK mother + NZ father

Post by whiskydeltatango » Mon Apr 11, 2022 9:29 am

Hello,

I would like to know whether anyone here may be able to offer some guidance on the topic of my parents settling in the United Kingdom.

My mother is a UK citizen by birth, and my step-father is a New Zealand citizen only. They have both been residing permanently in New Zealand, but now wish to resettle together in the United Kingdom. They have never married, though have been in a de facto relationship since the 1980s. They are joint owners of a home in the UK which their adult son currently occupies.

What is the recommended visa route for my father? I recognize that he will have to go through the ILR process, but which visa should he first apply for? He wishes to apply from within the UK, as they will be visiting this year.

Many thanks in advance for reading and for your assistance.

Dylan

Spouse visa and he must meet all the requirements.

He cannot apply for this visa while in the UK as a visitor. He must apply from New Zealand for entry clearance spouse visa.

You were already advised of all of this in 2018 when you originally asked!! Nothing has changed in the advice previously given. There is no shortcut route.

Ancestry visa is still an option and easier to get.

Thank you for that. The reason I restated my question is because I thought it quite possible that guidance had changed since August 2018. Furthermore, the pandemic has delayed their plans since my first inquiring, and they are only now able to begin the process.

There has been no change to the rules for an unmarried partner visa.
