Will it reset my clock if I move from dependent of a Skilled worker holder to Skilled worker(Tier 2 general)

Post by alexjohn1990 » Mon Apr 11, 2022 10:42 am

Hi all,

I have a question on the clock re-set when moving from a dependent Visa. I am currently a dependent on my spouse's skilled worker Visa(Tier 2 general). We are here from almost 8 months now. If I am to move to a Skilled worker Visa myself(Tier 2 general), will it count the 8 months that I am already in the country or will it reset my clock to be considered for the permanent residency?

Thanks in advance.

Your clock resets to zero if you switch to Skilled Worker visa.

You cannot combine dependent visa time with main visa time to make up 5 years for ILR.

Thanks for the response on this.

What if I manage to get only a 2-3 years sponsorship for now from a sponsor and later ends up not getting it extended? How will it effect my ILR?
What would happen if I need to be tagged as a dependent again later down the line?

Regards
Alex

Each time you switch between dependent and main visa holder and back to dependent, your 5 year ILR clock resets to zero.

For ilr based on 5 years residence, you need 5 continuous years as a dependent OR 5 continuous years as they main skilled worker visa holder.
