How to proceed?

Hello, I have been in the UK since last year on a student visa/tier 4 visa. My long term boyfriend (who is a uk citizen) and I are planning on getting married.
We have tried giving notice to the registrar but they have said they will have to redirect our case to the home office.
Can anyone tell me what questions we might have to answer in order to get married?
I am already on the track for a graduate route so spouse visa isn’t really an issue atm but we just wanted to know what kind of questions the home office might ask regarding our marriage notice.

It's common practice for the HO to check f your intended marriage is genuine. They need to know if you're not getting married for the sake of staying longer here in the UK. Every case is probably different, so I guess you just know details about your boyfriend. Family, work and all. Also, if you don't know just say you don't. Don't try making it up. One lie caught and everything else looks like a lie.
