Visit visa for mum holding a green card

Post by tribalgirl » Sun Jul 17, 2022 12:42 pm

Hello,

I am planning to apply for a UK Visitors visa for my mum who resides with my sister in the US and is a green card holder. She currently does childcare so earns a bit and pays her taxes there as well. She has about $2000 currently in her bank account but my husband will be sponsoring her. Does she holding a green card make the case for a visit visa stronger as she is planning to get citizenship there.

I would like to know what amount do we need to specify in the visa application for supporting this. We will be paying for her travel costs as well & taking care of all her expenses during her stay.

Do we need to show my husbands bank statements for this and will she need any supporting documents from her side too. What other documents do we need to strengthen the application

Many Thanks

See also Guide to supporting evidence

Probably six months bank statements. No more than one year. Perhaps from both applicant and sponsor.

See also Guidance for general information.

How long has she held her Green card?

Thanks a lot for coming back so quickly Vinny. She has had the green card for 6 years and was eligible for citizenship a year ago. They were waiting on some legal papers to come through from India hence couldn't proceed for the citizenship application. Is this something that should be mentioned in the visa application.

The application form requires that we specify an amount to sponsor her stay here, any ideas what this figure should be like. Also can anyone suggest how much we should ideally be having in the bank account for the past 6 months to support an application.

My friend had recently applied for her mom's visa which was rejected on the grounds that they weren't convinced she would return even though she has family back in the US and is settled there. Hence I wanted to know if having a green card & wanting to get a citizenship is ground for a strong application.

There is no fixed figure, among other this this will be dependent on her intended duration of stay, clearly able to demonstrate to CW from your financial evidence that the amou t is easy to be borne by you from your income after outgoings. Also can anyone suggest how much we should ideally be having in the bank account for the past 6 months to support an application. Also see quoted response in yellow above.

Is this something that should be mentioned in the visa application.Having a green card is no guarantee that anyone would get let into another country that you're required to apply for a visa for. Same way Republic of Ireland can reject the visa application of someone with ILR in the UK and vice versa. It only demonstrates current residency.

Also can anyone suggest how much we should ideally be having in the bank account for the past 6 months to support an application. What she has in her account can't be changed or modified at this stage. It would standout like a sore thumb. If she's here for 2 weeks, her 2 weeks expenses should compare relatively to half her monthly income. Your partner should be showing that he can afford her coming over with a very good monthly income. They both need 6 months statement of account and payslips.

Same thing applies for Non-British families of Brits, they get denied US visas. Law of reciprocity. You need to make your application is airtight to get any visas anywhere.
No sin in failing, you just have to try and try again!
