Telephone nikkah

Post by actuary » Mon Nov 17, 2008 1:22 pm

Hi,

I am in the UK on hsmp and will be having telephone nikkah in pakistan next week. I would really appreciate if you could guide me as to what documents/proofs are required to be submitted to the embassy for my wife's visa.

Regards

Telephone wedding is not recognised in the UK, so it will not matter what documents you have!

3.2. Telephone marriages
The formal validity of a telephone marriage is to be determined according to the laws of the countries in which both parties are physically present when the marriage takes place. Therefore, a telephone marriage celebrated whilst one of the parties is in the United Kingdom will not be valid as telephone marriages are not valid in this country.

I agree with Frontier mole comments. I also have doubts whether telephone nikkah can be accepted under Islamic law.

I think if you carry on with this, you might come unstuck in the future when your spouse applies for EC.

Can I ask why you are doing it this way? Why the telephone nikkah? can you not do it the tradional way?.

I take it you have met your future wife or fiance prior to the performance of the tel nikkah, because if you havent, then she will not get a visa, as one of therequirements that you have physically met each other somewhere
