Replacing lost BRP - HO want police ref, police say no

Post by Edwardo » Tue Aug 30, 2022 12:14 pm

Was completing the application for a new BRP for my wife who has lost her BRP. We reported it to the HO, they said order a replacement within 3 months or there will be trouble.

No problem, we started to order. Then it says 'did you report to police and have a crime ref number?'

Ticked no, got a message 'YOU MUST REPORT IT AS LOST TO THE POLICE'

So wife went to the police today and they said they are not recording lost property anymore, the HO should know this...

Should we tick the box 'yes' so we can proceed? She has tried to report it!

(We will try to call them tomorrow but am asking as perhaps someone knows what to do?'

Police don't take reports of lost/stolen cards anymore - you should have reported it here: https://www.gov.uk/biometric-residence- ... en-damaged
This is just my opinion as a member of this forum and does not constitute immigration advice.

Thank you.

Yes, we did report it as required to the HO, it is just when you then go to order a replacement, it says you must report the loss to the police.

I think we will have to say we did then that we cannot remember the crime reference number, so we can get to the next pages. They must know this is impossible to do now and we cannot risk delaying it as 3 months is the deadline and we are close to 3 weeks in now :D
