Skilled worker visa holder residence permit validity(5Y) is not matching with dependent visa expiry (lesser than 5 year)

Hi Guys,

I need some advise for my family dependent visa application. currently i am on job with skilled worker visa 5 year of COS, i entered UK in 19 October 2022 and have residence permit validity till october 2027. due to some reason i couldn't process my family dependent visa along with mine.

Currently I would like to apply family dependent visa now.

Here are my questions.

1. If i apply now my family will have less than 5 years visa validity. how i can extend the COS in future.

2. what would be the best option to apply 3 years visa or 5 years visa for them.

3. if i go with 3 years dependent visa application, what are the options i will have to make them 5 years stay in UK(even my residence permit expires).

4. whether i will be eligible extend their visa by staying in UK.

Please guide and i will appreciate with your valuable advise and optimized solutions.

They apply for a 5 year visa as it is based on your CoS and visa duration.

As they will need more time to qualify for ILR, they apply for a 3 year extension before expiry of their visas if you apply for ILR when you qualify. You do not need a new CoS for them to apply for an extension when you apply for ILR

If i don't need COS for their visa extention for 5 year visa application, then i can go for 3 year visa application initially, by the time thier visa expires they have one and half years of COS validity. based on that i can re-apply for 3 year visa extention.

By doing this i can save money, instead for 5 Year of dependent visa application + 3 year extension. i can go with 3 Year of dependent visa application + 3 year extension. 2 years of visa cost can be saved.

You do not need a CoS for them when you have ILR and for them to apply for a visa extension. This is completely separate to the initial application. Note that the only time they do not need a CoS is if you as the main visa holder has ILR or has an ILR application pending.

You cannot do this. Their initial visa is based on your CURRENT CoS of 5 years and you have to apply for 5 years for them. Their visa will expire the same time as your current visa does.

It doesn't work like this. A dependent visa from abroad is based on the length and duration of your CoS and visa. It is not up to you to choose something different. The dependent application form will specifically ask for your CoS and visa details.

No. PBS Dependents can only apply for an initial visa based on your visa and CoS duration.
