How likely is it that my Russian friend can get a visitor visa to UK ?

Hi,

my Russian friend wants to apply for a 6-month visit visa to UK, has anyone here had experience of this, how long it takes, common grounds for refusal etc ?

I don't think there's a specific restriction on Russian people applying for visas. I've heard it takes longer (one person I know waited for 2 months and a bit before decision was made), but it's all the same advice as for all visitor visas.

One aspect to be aware of is whether the applicant can show that she/he has close enough ties to home country to show they will leave the UK at the end of the visa term. This could be demonstrated by family ties, property, business interests or employment.
Not an expert on visitor visas but friend needs to think about this and possible documentation available.
