6 months validity rule and pre settled status

Post by passerby » Mon Mar 27, 2023 4:46 pm

Hi,

My wife has pre-settled status and her passport expires in 5 months. Can we travel outside the UK and return with her passport. I am pretty sure she can but she insists on some official website to confirm.

Regards.

There's no minimum validity period for entering the UK - the only stipulation is that the passport has to be valid - for visitors for the length of their stay. The 6 months rule applies to British passport holders entering the EU.

Note it says: "Your identity document should be valid for the whole of your stay."
Of course British citizens and residents have an open-ended stay (you renew your passport as and when).
This is just my opinion as a member of this forum and does not constitute immigration advice.

The UK does not have the 6 months validity rule. I recently returned to the UK with 2 months left in my passport, no issues at all
