BRP Renewal

Post by sresree » Sun Jul 02, 2023 9:53 pm

Hi,

I got ILR and BRP card in 2015. The BRP card shows a validity till Jan 2025. Should I renew this card?

I heard that the BRP cards are no longer issued and will be digital from Dec 2024. What happens to BRP which expires a month after moving to digital? Should I apply for renewal?

If I should, what are the documents required? I left the family home in 2018 due to domestic abuse and do not have any proof of residence from 2015 to 2018. My ex-husband will not give me any supporting documents. I do have proof of residence from 2018 to the date I will have to apply for renewal.

Please advise.

Thanks
sresree

We don't know. All we know is that you won't be given a physical card anymore -> nothing for you to renew.
UKVI/HO should explain what to do in due course, I'd advise you to come back to that topic in a year/a year and a half when it'll, hopefully, be clearer about how all this will work.

Most likely, no; once again, now we need to wait and see.

Thank you for the reply. Did you say mid of July 2023 that there will be more information on BRPs?

Nope. We don't know what HO is up to unless they post it in public.

For you, if HO is on track, you won't have to extend your card; possibly they'll do some online process, but once again, we don't know. It's just too far fetched.

Thank you very much again. Does the current renewal process require proof of residence for 10 years of holding ILR? Will the BRP replacement rejected if applicant does not have proof of residence for the first 3 years?

You do not need to tell UKVI if your BRP expires on 31 December 2024 but your immigration status (for example, your visa) allows you to stay longer.

You will not need a BRP from 1 January 2025. You’ll be able to prove your immigration status online, without a BRP.

UKVI will update their information on how to prove your immigration status in early 2024. You do not need to do anything and your immigration status will not be affected.
