UK visitor visa and Passport Query

My passport has 3 Years remaining in it

And I am about to submit a 5 year visitor visa application

Do I need to get a new passport before submitting the application ?

You don't have to. If visa is granted, you should use both new and old passport (for identity and visa purposes, respectfully) when going to UK.

You can use the valid visa in your expired passport when you’re travelling to and from the UK. You’ll need to travel with your expired and your new passport.
