Hello All,
I would be grateful if someone can guide me on the Timeline and process or visa renewal and COS application.
My Tier 2 visa which was for 2 years expires in September 2023 along with my dependents;
My employer wants to extend my sponsorship for another 3 years;
1) When should my employer apply for COS (undefined) for my renewal.
Last year they received an email in the month of May to apply for allocation if needed for the coming year 2022-2023. So I am guessing an email will also be received this year to apply for allocation for the year 2023-24
2) Any documentation or justification for COS or just apply through SMS and mention it is for renewal with intent to extend.
Does COS allocation request for someone already on their sponsorship require any additional paperwork submission or justification or is it straight forward on the system?
I am the only sponsored employee and they do not have any plans to sponsor anyone else.
3) Can they apply for 3 years COS although the license expires in the next 2 years (completion of 4 years)
3) When do I apply for visa renewal?
Once the COS is received I would like to apply at a date so that there is no overlap or loss of days, i.e.i want to apply in a manner which gets me the visa dated 3 more years after expiry of the visa.
4) When do I apply for my dependents visa?
Dependents visa expires on the same date as mine, can the visa application be done together?
5) Status if COS or visa is delayed?
If the COS or visa is delayed for any reason beyond the expiry date, what would be my status while I wait?
Many thanks in advance.

That's a good plan

Yes

For visa you retain same rights as you currently have provided you apply before currently visa expires.
Many thanks in advance.
Your company is to deal with the initial questions you asked about COS.

Many thanks for the response, I would appreciate if I can get some guidance on the initial questions as well reason I ask is that I would like to push the HR to start in a timely manner and with the correct information at hand, they tend to be relaxed and eventually get my situation in jeopardy, hence if I can get some guidance I can act while I still have enough lead time to get things.

Advise please:
- Travel out of UK: 14 Sept.
- Old CoS Job End Date: 15 Sept
- Arrive back in UK: 25 Sept
- New CoS issue: 25 Sept
- New CoS Job Start Date: 1 Oct (same employer - start date based on my req. to travel - can change)
- Apply for Visa Renewal: 27 Sept
- Leave End Date on BRP: 29 Sept
1) Will I be ok to enter UK even though the CoS job date has passed but leave remains.
2) There will be a gap of 14 days between old Job End and new Job start and application for renewal is put after the job end date has passed - can this become an issue for in-land UK application for renewal.
3) Is it better or makes no difference to get CoS issued prior to travel to cover 1 & 2
Thanks in advance

1) The leave validity is given by the BRP expiry date. The new application must be submitted before BRP expires. Old CoS date is irrelevant.
2) No issues.
3) Same as above.

Many thanks for reassuring me.
I have 2 follow up questions,
4) If I get a long Biometric date because for some reason the app based verification is not offered, will my application be considered in-process even though the biometric is not complete?
5) Can I start working as per new CoS date while the application is in process or do I have to wait for the decision and inform the employer, and will the employer have to update the SMS system of the delay / non-starting of work while decision is awaited?
Thanks

The date of application is the date you submit and pay online. Your biometric appointment date is irrelevant. Your current visa and visa conditions continue until a new visa is approved.

No you cannot work for your new sponsor until you have received your new visa and BRP card. The new employer can add a note to the SMS system. It is not a big issue at all.

Thanks a lot, this means I may have to use priority or super to commence work asap or I sit without salary.
Will my application be looked upon badly for this tardiness and not applying while I had the time and applied just a few days before job start date?
Can I apply priority for myself and dependents as standard?

No, it's not the concern of HO on circumstances as described above. Theirs is to check your meeting the requirements of what you are applying for.

Yes you can, and a couple of previous outcomes (those were visitor visa applications though) indicate your dependants can also get quick decisions.
