ECS check during SWV update

I applied to update the employer on my SWV via 5-day priority on Jun 26 and was told there was an 'IT issue', so the decision still hasn't been made by now. I am trying to convince my employer to re-submit the application with priority and in-person biometrics to try our luck. But at the same time also want to know if I can work in the interim as I saw in this post that Home Office might confirm my right to work - has anyone been able to work while waiting for visa update?
