MY IGS VISA IS DUE TO EXPIRE - URGENT HELP NEEDED

My IGS Visa expires Jan 30th 2009. I am still trying to find a suitable sponsor/university to study phd. I am also considering doing another masters. However as my IGS visa is near to its end, I need to extend my stay here so that I can research and pursue my education.

Please can someone tell me the best way of doing this without having to return home to thailand.

I also have a p/t job in a restaurant, of which the owner has offered me a f/t manager job. This would mean the chance to apply for a work permit. If I have no other choice should I consider taking this so that I can buy more time to study? My main concern is what the best route is to take in order to stay here until I find a sponsor/university for my phd.
