US citizen needs help with UK marriage visa application

Post by khuda78 » Tue Dec 16, 2008 3:18 pm

I am in the process of applying for a marriage visa. I am a US citizen and my husband has an HSMP visa in the UK. We got married in the US about a week ago. We leave the States on Jan 5 to conduct our wedding overseas. I will be gone for about 2 months straight from there for business trips, coming back to the States in March.

I probably should have waited, but I jumped the gun and submitted my online visa application and paid the marriage visa fee. I have my biometrics appointment scheduled for tomorrow. I'm just realising now that several things could delay my application:

1. my marriage certificate has not yet arrived (scheduled to in about 7 working days, but who knows with the holidays)
2. My biometrics information could take some time to process
3. I could be called in for an interview

I can't delay my wedding, so I do need to be out of here by Jan 5. So even if all goes well, i'm hesitant to hand over my passport for the fear that I won't get it back in time for my flight. Can anyone advise how to best proceed? Will my application be kept in the system, and can I continue this process after I return in March (e.g. reschedule my biometrics and submit all my documentation then)? Will waiting that long hurt my application?

I feel like I have to decide this today, since I must submit all supporting documentation within two weeks of having my biometrics done (so if i go through with this now, there is no waiting until March). PLEASE HELP!

Think you jumped the gun a bit too quick; you should have applied for a HSMP dependant visa not a marriage visa...

how to proceed?

i did jump the gun -- i went through TraVisa, a visa agency in the US, who advised me to apply for the marriage visa and said it was a pretty straightforward process. Any suggestions on what I should do now?

Do I need to submit a whole new visa application all together (HSMP dependent), or can i continue on with the marriage visa process? If the latter, any ideas on if i can reschedule my biometrics and submit all supporting documentation when I return to the US in march?

Its a complicated situation, but I am desperate for some advice on how to proceed if anyone can help.
