Clarification regarding British Passport

Post by androidlover » Sat Oct 07, 2023 12:22 pm

Hi Team,

This forum has been valuable guide during my journey to British Citizenship. Thanks to every one.

I have my citizenship ceremony next week and I understood I will get naturalization certificate at the end of it.

Can I start my British Passport application (online) form now itself and submit as soon as I get certificate or will there a be a link received from home office or council that I am naturalized now after ceremony and need to use that link to start my passport application?

Regards

Congratulations!

You won't get a specific link for your first passport application, you can apply anytime after the ceremony by going online (paper form is also available). Not sure you can save the application as draft - just try it. Note the council would not be involved in HMPO passport process.

PS: please keep your certificate safe as it's the only document that confers British citizenship. The passport is a travel document first of all.

Thank you for the advise. Unfortunately, I cannot find a way to proceed without filling naturalization certificate number.

Also, can I clarify if there is a way to do multiple applicants applications passport application in a single form or we need to submit separate application for each applicant and pay separately?

If we have to do separate application per applicant, would we be able to send documents via POST to Passport Office in a single envelope for both application or we also need to post documents separately?

Thanks

You can't save the passport application as a draft unfortunately, but you can do it once you have the certificate number. I don't think you can apply for multiple passports in the same go.

Thanks, I have not found a way to do multiple application so ended up doing two separate applications one per member and hoping to send both in the same envelope (from my research on this forum).

Can I clarify something on this thread itself, documents requested to be sent are

1) naturalisation or registration certificate - OK
2) the passport used to enter the UK - SEE BELOW
3) any current or expired passports from other countries that haven’t been cancelled - SEE BELOW

2. passport used to enter the UK expired 14 years ago, do i still send that?
3. I have three passports in between first passport used to enter UK and my current passport, do i need to send all passports or just the first passport and the current one? All passport are of same nationality.

what would classify as cancelled passport?

Thanks

what would classify as cancelled passport? Passport with cut off corners, holes punched, rubber stamped as cancelled or invalid, or similar markings
NOTE: HMPO ask for passports to check that names are the same on all documents - they don't like multiple identities being used or having been used.
Thanks

Please can I clarify something else, I have managed to send both applications in a single envelope as many other forums suggested, however status for one of the applicant says documents received whereas for other it still says send the document.

But strange enough, they have returned original documents sent for both of the applicants back.

Can anyone advise, they would have taken the captures of both documents and will still process them for applicant where it still says send the documents or do I need to send the document back again separately to process it?

I am confused. Reminders keeps coming to send documents whilst they had it with them and even now it is returned back to me.

Did you write all application reference numbers on the envelope?
