Lived in another country as a child - unable to recall dates

Post by Butterfly233 » Wed Dec 13, 2023 5:33 pm

Hello everyone. We are currently applying for a spouse visa for my husband, switching from a graduate visa.

There is a question which asks: 'Have you previously lived in a country outside of UK?'. It asks to lists countries and dates, including a day and month. He lived in a certain country twice due to parent's work commitments. Unfortunately, he was a child (less than 10 yo) at the time they lived the first time round, so he can't recall the exact dates, he only remembers what years it was in. He doesn't have best relationship with his family so can't ask anyone either. What's the best way to go about answering this question, please? Is it worth mentioning that dates provided are best to our ability? Should we mention something more?

I'd really appreciate your help. Thank you very much.

Apologies I can't seem to edit my original post but have one more question

If he lived in his birth country, then another country for a bit, then birth country (X), another country again (Y), then birth country before moving to the UK, should we list it as:

X - dates
Y - dates
X - dates
Y - dates
And so on? Want to make sure as we don't want anything to look odd to Home Office. It was mainly when he was underage due to parents moving around, is it worth explaining also? Thank you in advance!

As long as you declare that he has lived in other countries and do the best with the dates it will not cause too much of an issue. If you can add a note to explain, even better.
Does he have any of his previous applications to hand as I imagine this question has been posed before?

Thank you very much for your help, we will do that.

This question was not asked before in his student and graduate visa applications (please correct me if I'm wrong and we just can't remember it?). It asked for previous travel history but not where he previously lived, I assume it may be as spouse visa is a route to settlement unlike student and graduate visa?

Apologies, I also should have mentioned that student visa application asked for travel in the past 10 years. The country he lived in as a child for the first time would be 15+ years, therefore it wasn't mentioned. We have a printed submission of his student visa application but there is no question asking about where he lived outside of UK.
