Removing Legal Representative From Claim

Post by proff » Wed Dec 27, 2023 9:10 pm

I am assisting my relative in their Asylum claim. They don't speak any english so I've been helping them.

Due to severe shortage of getting a legal aid funded solicitor. I decided to pay for one privately for them. Unfortunately the solicitor has been terrible and my relative decided they don't want them aymore and that we should handle the claim ourselves until we get the initial decision.

I spoke to the solicitor and told them that they are not required anymore. Unfortunately the solicitor has told me that they can't take the instruction from me and they can only take this from my relative. I told them on numerous occassions they don't speak english and I have no idea how this can be done. I even told them that I don't want any of the fee I paid back. I mentioned signing a third party consent form but they still won't help.

I've looked at UKVI website and the only information I can find is changing a legal representative. There's nothing mentioned about removing one.

Now we are worried that the solicitor will be getting all the communication from the Home Office and we won't know anything as they won't speak to me.

Can anyone advice how we go about informing the Home Office to send all communication to us and remove the solicitor from the claim. I've already updated the correspondence address.

I appreciate any guidence given.
