Greetings everyone,

While exploring the requirements for the SWV application, I came across a mention of needing either a UK PhD certificate or a unique Ecctis reference number (previously unique UK NARIC reference number) for qualifications obtained outside the UK. As I don't possess a PhD, and it's not a prerequisite for the position, I'm uncertain whether I need this reference number. Could you provide guidance on when it's necessary to go through the qualification process?

I got a certificate from PSI-skills for English, it's a Secure English Language Test (SELT) from an approved provider. So I fulfilled my English proficiency requirement. I was wondering if I need to make a degree/education qualification even if I don't have a PhD.

There is no requirement to prove the U.K. equivalent for your degree. It does not matter what language it was taught in or even if it is recognised by the U.K. The employer makes the decision if you meet the requirements of the role and as long as the information / documents you supply are genuine - job done.

The only time that a qualification or accreditation is an absolute for the role to be performed, usually professional in nature, doctors, dentists, lawyers and accountants being far from an exclusive list of examples.

How do I know whether my job needs such qualifications or not? My SoC is 2126.

Unless it is a requirement to practice eg you need a particular accreditation from a professional body then there is not an absolute need for the degree you have. It depends on the role. The general roles under the SoC stated are unlikely to lead to professional bodies to accredit your work activities BUT your relevant degree in the area that you will be employed in will provide assurance that the role to be performed is legitimate and you hold the appropriate qualification that would allow you to perform the stated role.

Thank you for your reply. It is still a bit confusing to me, I will try to be more specific, my SoC is 2126: Design and development engineers, the role is embedded R&D Engineer, from what you stated and since there is a professional body that needs any accreditation, I think I do not need to apply through Ecttis. As far as I know, there is no need to provide a degree certificate (or its equivalent via Ecttis) for my job code and my role.

Hello everyone,

I am 28 years old, and applying for the first time for a skilled worker visa from outside the UK. I noticed that my sponsor ticket the "**new entrant"**case in the CoS thinking it means a new application or a new entrant to the labor market. According to HO documents, I am not considered a "new entrant", how can we correct that? Is it worth correcting or not? Do we need a sponsor notice for it and can I apply just after sending the sponsor notice?


Note: My annual salary is above the annual going rate for my SOC.
