Overseas bank accounts for maintenance requirement

Post by delphine » Fri Dec 19, 2008 2:17 pm

Hi,

This seems like a very basic question but I can't seem to find an answer to it anywhere, so bear with me if it has been asked and i missed something... am I allowed to submit overseas bank account statements for the maintenance funds requirement?

The situation is, I am currently in the UK having finished a degree in Sept and interning on a very minimal work allowance since then. My family are supporting me financially and send money regularly so I honestly have no problems with living expenses. My degree results were released just two weeks ago, which is why I haven't been able to apply any earlier for the PSW visa. I'm just starting to gather up my documents and apply now.

However, entirely through carelessness on my part, I didn't realise that the £800 maintenance requirement had to be consistent over 3 months. :( and there are times, within the past 3 months, when my balance has dipped down to £350. I have just received more money and the balance currently sits at a very comfortable £5500, but I am pessimistic and realistic enough about bureaucracy to understand that if I try to apply with statements that show it has hit £350 before, I'll probably be refused.

I do have plenty saved in my bank account back home, though. So my question is, if I get my family back home to get these statements for me and post them over here ASAP, can I apply with them? My name is on the account and there has been well over £800 (or £2800 even) in it for 3 months.

I can't wait for time to lapse and my balance to return to the right amount becuase my visa expires at the end of January. It would be a disaster if I have to leave then because I have to see out the work I am currently doing until March. Would it be at all advisable to post in the application with what documents I can get, just to try my luck and buy me some time?

I am in a massive predicament so any help would be appreciated!

Hi all, just thought I'd post an update on my own question, for anyone wondering the same thing and being unable to find out the answer. I have asked quite a few people and yes, overseas bank accounts are fine as long as you are one of the named account holders.

Now my new problem is that my bank at home has refused to produce statements for me because I haven't had enough transactions over the past three months (this is because I haven't been home!). I have got my passbook updated showing a monthly deposit and also a withdrawal as of today (26 Dec), and of course the closing balance after those transactions. My bank in the UK has agreed to produce a covering letter for me stating how many pounds sterling my overseas bank balance converts to.

My question now is, if I submit my passbook and this covering letter from my UK bank, will that be sufficient for the maintenance requirement? Any help is appreciated!
