Global Business Mobility (with a sub route category) to Skilled Worker Visa

Post by barani_mit » Tue Jun 18, 2024 7:21 pm

The query which I wanted to clarify is, My current employer/visa sponsor says that because I am deputed in the UK on a GBM visa with a "sub route category "called "Bespoke Model visa" tailored for some employee tax benefits . With this type of visa, my employer is saying they can't apply for a new skilled worker visa for me without serving a cooling off period in India for 3 months.

Then, I spoke to UK Home office directly and tried to get this clarified. UK Home office has no idea on what this "sub route category" and "bespoke model visa" as well. but also Home office confirmed that as long as one has a GBM visa(irrespective of sub route category whatever it is ) and submit a new skilled worker visa application before the GBM visa expires. There will not be any issue at all with this switch and the application will be successful one.

Could you please now clarify on whether this is possible for me to switch to a skilled worker visa with a new employer having said that I am a GBM visa holder under the sub route category - Bespoke model ?

There is no such thing as a cooling off period anymore. Ask your employer to show you where this is stated on official UKVI website or documents.

Note that you do not get any tax benefits/reductions on Skilled Worker visa.

Also note that the call centre is not UKVI staff, it is a third party agency that runs the call centre contracted by UKVI.

The cooling off period is mandatory if you would like to extend your visa with the same sponsor. But in case, if you find a different sponsor, There is no cooling off period required for you to apply a new work visa.

Hi Barani, what if my current sponsor would ready to provide sponsorship for skilled worker visa instead of extending my visa through GBM again, do I still need cooling period? Will that work . Thanks
