Funds::Confused

Post by GoforUK » Tue Jan 06, 2009 5:14 pm

I am married and I am going to apply for General Tier 1. I am planning to go alone first to the UK and then bring my family after 6 months. For the manintenance fund , the pbs appendix states that I should have 2800 pounds + 1600 pounds+ 1600 pounds for my wife and kid, if they intend to join me within 12 months of my date of travel.
For the past 3 months I am having around 3.5 lakhs in bank account. Now my doubt is "is that sufficent for me to apply for HSMP now" or "should I have around 5 lakhs even if apply alone(without wife and kid) "

If you apply all alone then you dont need to show maintenance funds for your dependants. Its when you submit their application that the above clause ill be operative.

Thanks for your reply..I was almost dejected after reading the statement in the form PBSAPPENDIX1.In section 7 it reads as
In order for the application to be approved you must have a minimum level of funds and score 10 points for your level of funds. If you do not score 10 points the application will be refused. You must have £2,800 available funds for yourself plus £1,600 for each dependant accompanying you or intending to join you in the United Kingdom within 12 months of your arrival in the United Kingdom. This money must be held in your personal bank account for at least 3 months before the date of your application and not fall below the required amount at any time during that period.
I was confused with the statements in bold.

Also what should I fill in the section 5 of vaf in my case please.Shouldn't I mention about my wife and kid's details then? :idea:

The section that you should be looking at is:
What the documents must show
If you are applying from within the United Kingdom, the balance must show that you have had at least £800 in your account at all times over the three-month period.

If you are applying from outside the United Kingdom, the balance must show that you have had at least £2,800 in your account at all times over the three-month period.
And also see this:
Can my dependants join me in the UK?
Your husband, wife, civil partner or eligible partner and children under 18 can join you as your dependants in the UK if:
they have a visa for this purpose and
you can support them without any help from public funds. You need £1,600 for each dependant joining you within 12 months of your arrival in the UK and £533 thereafter.
Dont make the mistake of NOT disclosing your dependent's details. In the additional information you need to say that your dependents are not applying for a Tier-1 Dependent Status simultaneously but would join you at a later date once you have made adequate arrangements for your stay and livelihood in UK and are in a position to support them. Their travel plan/date is not available yet.

The way that the PBS 9 and its Appendix-1 have been drafted seem to give an impression that even if your dependents are not applying with you but plan to travel in next 2 months you need to show adequate maintenance fund availability for them too when you make an application solely for the main applicant. This I feel is not indicated in the PBS guidance.
