Sale of IP and Royalties

Post by Kabousie » Thu Jan 02, 2025 3:35 pm

Hello,

I am currently in Ireland on a Stamp 1G as the spouse of a critical skills holder. I am also employed full-time. As per my residency permit, I am not allowed to start my own business or be self-employed, however, I have always been a writer. It seems that things are currently heading in a direction where I could potentially sell a manuscript to a US (and other) publishers, and if all goes well, earn royalties. This might fall under the ambit of being "self-employed", however small or substantial the amounts could be.

Has anybody ever dealt with something similar? Can I request specific exemption or permission for this? Is there a basis to change my work permit to something that would allow me to stay and work while pursuing this?

I will get formal legal advice in addition to my own research.

Thank you in advance.
