Irish Citizenship Certificate Fee Error

Post by Nature2024 » Thu Oct 10, 2024 4:58 am

I am wondering if anyone can help me. My wife made an error while paying for the citizenship certificate fee online by putting her name in the applicant space but put in details of my citizenship application number, uploaded my passport page and IRP copy. The error was only detected when I got an email of payment confirmation on email. My wife is already an Irish Citizen just to clarify. I have sent in a registered post to alert them of situation called and emailed them but no response. I just receive an email acknowledging payment processed but address using my wife’s name. I am utterly worried and not sure what to do. Does anyone know what I can do about this

Thank you

It may cause some delays, nothing more.

You have already sent a registered mail to them, so no need to worry about anything. Worst case scenario, they will refund the fee and you just pay again (and may miss the next ceremony but will be included in the one after that).

I filled in that eVetting form the other day and did not put the district number for Dublin in the address line. They actually responded very quickly saying they could not process that because of the lack of district number (which sounds absurd as the district number is in the Eircode), and I had to fill in a new eVetting form. I guess the same may happen to you, if they couldn't reconcile the payment details.

Error on certificate of naturalisation

Post by Nature2024 » Sat Jan 11, 2025 3:01 pm

Hi everyone,

I recently received my Certificate of Naturalisation, and I’ve noticed that there is an error in my name. The details do not match my original application or my identity documents. An additional alphabet letter was added to my middle name which makes it incorrect.

I’d appreciate any guidance on what steps I should take to have this corrected. Specifically:
1. Which government department or office should I contact?
2. Is there a specific form or process to report this issue?
3. Are there any fees involved, and how long might it take to resolve?

If anyone has been through a similar situation, I’d be very grateful for your advice or insights.

Thank you in advance for your help!

When they send you the letter of intention to grant, it would specifically list the details that would appear on your naturalisation certificate. Are the details there correct? If so, you should just send them a copy of that letter and a copy of the naturalisation certificate, and tell them that the cert is wrong and the correct details are in the letter.

In terms of the process, you can raise a query on the newly launched portal.Irishimmigration.ie website, or you can write them a registered letter. These things don’t happen very often, so there isn’t a defined process.

It was wrong also on the letter of intent and I had wrote to them to correct it with my date of birth and also the name on the certificate fee. All is now corrected except for the name on the naturalisation certificate which I just recieved. Will this be a problem with the passport office if I back it up with an affidavit to apply for my passport as I am unsure how long it will take for them to issue me out a new certificate

I think it will be a problem if you use the cert with wrong name to apply for your passport. If they approve an application where the name in your cert is different from your name in your birth certificate and your current passport, that would be a big miss by the passport office staff.

In your query you can say that you want to apply for an Irish passport soon so you are expecting a new certificate to be issued asap, or if that is not possible, you want an official statement from ISD confirming your Irish citizenship.

It will be an issues, as stated above - they rely on the certificate name to be the same as in your passport and align accordingly; it's better to wait till a new certificate is issued, even though it might take a while.
