Would a UK citizen has access to more financial support than ILR holders?

Post by nuaaxiayu » Sat Feb 15, 2025 11:54 pm

Dear forum,

I am asking on behalf of a family member, who naturalized last year.

They currently only receice child benefit from Govt, do they need to inform them or HMRC about their recent naturalization?

And would they now have access to more public fund assuming their financial condition does not change much?

Thank you.

You need to qualify for most benefits . Citizenship alone is not an open door.

No.

There is not a lot of difference between a person on ILR and a British citizen within the UK.

People on ILR have access to the same entitlements and benefits as a British citizen within the UK.

Indeed, a Commonwealth citizen with ILR can be elected to Parliament or appointed to the Lords, just like a British citizen.
