When exactly to apply for Naturalisation

Post by Lenin111 » Fri Mar 21, 2025 5:45 am

Good morning!

Just two questions.

1. We are going to apply in the mid of May 2025 for naturalisation process AN (my wife and me) and for registration process MN (my 8 years old son).
Route: 5years skilled worker visa vignette date 12.05.2019
ILR for all of us 12.05.2024
The question is - can we fill the form and submit application in the mid of April 2025 and book biometric appointment in the mid of May 2025, uploading all docs required for the application by that time?
It’s not clear from what date the application day is considered? Is it the application submission and payment date? Or the day of the biometric appointment?
If we can’t do that, can the application starts to be filled 2-3 weeks before eligibility date (mid May 2025)?

2. How old documents can be? Especially referee signed forms, can they be signed 1month in advance?

Thank you very much for the answers!

1. Application date is the day you submit/pay online. You can start filling in the online form before then and save until you are ready to submit.
2. Referee forms should be dated recently so 1 month before is fine.

Good morning,

for the referee form, I guess we can still use the same form for AN1 or MN1 applications? (just the name on the link states somehow MN1):

https://visas-immigration.service.gov.u ... on_MN1.pdf

The link is from gov.uk, this is the link provided once you complete the application and made the payment I guess. Just asking as wanted to prepare the forms and sign them in advance before the submission of the application!

Thanks.

The form is fine for AN or MN1.

Thanks for the information!

We are going to submit the following documents, could you please tell whether this the full list:

1. Two referee declarations (for each member of family);
2. Travel history for the last 5 years - Passport copies (for each member of family);
3. English certificate (wife and me);
4. A letter of consent from parent for citizenship application (for a son (under 18));
5. Marriage certificate (wife and me);
6. Life in the UK test? (wife and me);
7. Copy of ILR BRPs (for each member of family);
8. Do I have to inform about Parking tickets, had just one, almost 5 years ago. Not sure, as normally from I read in forums, most people do not declare it. Agencies during the application for Visa and ILR were saying it's not needed. Only speeding tickets... And minutes ago read AN guideline (p.23) where it states:
Fixed penalty notices such as those issued under the coronavirus Regulations, or for traffic
offences such as speeding or parking tickets must also be disclosed, although will not
normally be taken into account unless you have failed to pay and there were criminal
proceedings as a result, or you have received multiple fixed penalty notices in a short
space of time.
Should I be bothered about that?

Thanks again!

1. Two referee declarations (for each member of family); ok
2. Travel history for the last 5 years - Passport copies (for each member of family); ok
3. English certificate (wife and me); ok
4. A letter of consent from parent for citizenship application (for a son (under 18));ok
5. Marriage certificate (wife and me); Not required
6. Life in the UK test? (wife and me); Just fill in the reference number in the form (I think there's a box for that)
7. Copy of ILR BRPs (for each member of family); ok
8. Do I have to inform about Parking tickets, had just one, almost 5 years ago. Not sure, as normally from I read in forums, most people do not declare it. Should I be bothered about that? Just declare - no impact as such as as per guidance. Note that naturalisation isn't an immigration application therefore I'd go with the AN guidance.

Thanks again!

Good evening all,
When started to fill the application about parking ticket, it was interesting to see the following statement:
"You must tell us about fixed penalty notices (e.g. a speeding or parking ticket) if you've received three or more. If you received a fixed penalty notice but didn't pay the fine and there was a criminal proceeding resulting in a conviction, tell us here."

As I'm really struggling to find that parking ticket as it was 3-4 years ago and it was the only fine I had, I would just miss it, and do not decalre it, based on that statement above, should be ok I think?

Was it a PCN - eg you parked and didn't pay a company, or a FPN, eg was your car parked in an inappropriate spot and it was removed?

Hello,
as far as I remeber it was FPN as I parked at not apropriate place and the fine was paid in time!

Thanks

No wait, I just found the "Parking Charge Notice Payment" confirmation in my email box dated from May 2021.
So I paid the 60£.
But no ticket itself.. should I decalre anything then?

It is a PCN, so no need to declare it.

Thanks for the reply contorted_svy.

We are finally going to submit our application form next week, could you please say whether our understanding is correct and we are not missing anything.

Package of documents:

1. Proof of my wife and my parental responsibility for our 8yrs old son - Translated son's birth certificate?
2. Passports for the family. The only thing son has got 2 valid travel passport, one of them has not been used for travel we have got it recently.
3. English certificates for the my wife and me.
4. ILR BRP settlement status scans.
5. A letter of consent from Mr xxxxxxxxx parent(s) or legal guardian(s) The letter must:
- give their full names and addresses
- say that they agree to let you apply for a British citizenship.
If you have more than one parent or legal guardian, they must both sign the letter and confirm that they agree to what it says. - We have the required form to sign. The only thing do we need to prepare the additional declaration from with PART1/PART2/PART3, which we have done previously for ILR application?

6. Proof of living in the UK for me and my wife for 5 years - Passports with travel stamps?
7. 2 Referee for my wife, me and son.
8. Son's birth certificate (showing details of both parents).
9. Life in the UK test passed code already provided in the application form.

Hopefully nothing is missed!

One more question we have is about the translations - we are using the old certified translation for our son's birth certificate and our marriage certificate, which were already submitted during previous visa/ilr applications - should be ok I think, as we did not have the issues with that.
Additionaly I would like to make the 2 translations of my wife's and my birth certificates, the reason for that as it has the specific town name of our birth places, which I'm going to put in the application form (as in international passport the name of country is only written at Place of birth field, which we can not obviously use). The question - are those translations need to be made from certified interpreter? Can they also be made using the interpreters from the home country?

Thanks for the replies!

Why does your son still have the old passport? or is your son a dual national? Cut a corner from the old passport as you hav a new one and won't need the old one to travel anymore.

Morning, thanks for the reply contorted_svy.

2 passports are both valid from same country (which is allowed from the my home country) - sometimes it's more convenient to have 2 passports for travel and visa purposes. And on the first passport the photo was from quite young age for my son.

I have personally never encountered this. I think you need to provide both.
