When to apply for British citizenship application

Post by steveojo22 » Mon May 12, 2025 5:19 pm

Hello,

I wonder if you could please assist me with my enquiry:

My wife was granted her ILR on 08/07/2024. She got her ILR through the spouse Visa route.

I would like to know the earliest date she can apply for British Citizenship (Please note her husband (myself) is still on ILR as I have not applied for British citizenship.

Your help with this would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

She can apply once she has held ILR for 12 months and meets all the 5 year requirements, including the physically present at the start of the qualifying period.

Hello CR001,

Many thanks for your below response.

So the 28 days rule (where by you can submit an application 28 days before) do not apply to British Citizen application?

Thank you.

There's mo "28 days" rule for naturalisation - it's not part of immigration.
This is just my opinion as a member of this forum and does not constitute immigration advice.

Life in the UK and Knowledge of English

Post by steveojo22 » Mon Jul 07, 2025 4:46 pm

Hello,

I wonder if you could please assist me with my enquiry. My wife is about to start her British Citizen application having had ILR for the past 12 month (Obtained ILR in July 2024).

I would like to double check if she can still use the Knowledge of English certificate and Life in the UK test results she used to obtain her Indefinite Leave to Remail (ILR) last year (2024) for her British Citizen application?

I would appreciate your help with this as we do not want to make mistake by using last year's test result.

Thank you.

Referees and Identity Form

Post by steveojo22 » Thu Jul 10, 2025 7:16 am

Hello all,

I would like to double check something so i do not make mistake.

The Passport Photograph on the Referees and Identity form to be completed by the referees, is this 'Applicant' passport photograph or 'Referees' please as am a bit confused? I believe they're asking for applicant passport photograph but not entirely sure that's why.

Also, my wife and daughter (The applicants) will be providing 2 referees; One of them a Pastor with a British Passport and the second a non British but a Chartered Surveyor, would this be sufficient? Our daughter is 8 years old.

I would appreciate your help with this.

Thank you.

The photograph is of the applicant!

The referees should be ok.

Proof of Living in the UK

Post by steveojo22 » Thu Jul 10, 2025 9:55 am

Hello,

We're in the process of completing British citizenship application for my wife and daughter, but it's unclear how they'll be able to proof living in the UK for 5 year.

They have all their previous international passports since entering the UK, would this be sufficient or do they need to add something else to it please? If yes, what do they need to add as proof of living in the UK.

Thank you for your help with this.

Proof of living in the UK is the passport(s) and stamped pages for the qualifying period. Nothing else is required.

PS: keep all the citizenship questions in one single post, no need to open a new one for every single question.
